ME News - In São Paulo, at Brazil's largest international holiday fair, it was announced that Brazil's Rio de Janeiro has been voted the best LGBTQ Beach Destination in South America. The vote took place earlier at the annual convention of The International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association (IGLTA) that took place in Buenos Aires in Argentina. With several LGBTQ-friendly places in Rio de Janeiro such as the beaches of Ipanema and Copacabana, the city has always been an important destination for LGBTQ people. Add to that the annual Carnival and Rio Gay Pride and you can imagine that this city attracts LGBTQ travellers. “We are always happy when Rio de Janeiro receives an award given by the people themselves. That makes the result more real, ” Rio’s Tourism Secretary Antonio Pedro Figueira de Mello told The Rio Times. Best of all, LGBTQ people are an important market for the city. They stimulate the economy and provide employment and an income for the tourism sector ”, adds Antonio Pedro.
