CULTURE - From 4 May to 3 June you will find the photo exhibition 'Gender Diversity' by Brigitte Boffin in the cultural meeting centre Het Stadsmagazijn in the Belgian Antwerp. In simple and touching portraits the photographer shows people in all their diverse wealth and beauty.
The Antwerp photographer Brigitte Boffin never failed to share her passion for culture and diversity. Boffin previously exhibited with 'Female Diversity', in which she portrayed Antwerp women of more than 170 nationalities. This time she brings together portraits showing how rich our gender diversity is.
Boffin has always admired people who dare to show themselves in all their diversity. “In our society it's not always easy to be who you are. From our birth to our adulthood we are formed through our upbringing in the family, through the educational systems and through our environment. Some people feel fine in this process of 'formatting', but there are others who fail to identify with the standard models. They feel different. Expressing these differences and standing up for being different requires courage, because this can cause a lot of difficulties,” said Boffin.
With the photographs Boffin wants to show that despite these differences one can be themselves. "It's precisely the differences that give wealth and beauty to our society," we read from Boffin at the website of Het Stadsmagazijn.
